What does it mean to have success? Is it purely based on profits and losses? How about brand growth? And what about team development? I guess you could say we’ve been trying to determine the answer to that question since we got started. All we know at this point is that when we set goals, we reach them. Let me rephrase: when we set realistic, short-term, specific goals, we reach them.

When it comes to the number of clients we’d like to have, or the number of jobs we want to work on, or the number of candidates we want to submit, or even the overall quarterly revenue we want to achieve, it’s rare that we miss the mark. But when it comes to things like hiring for our own team, or reaching new heights on social media, we’re often left asking more questions than we have the answers to.

At this point our lives as entrepreneurs, it’s important for us to tell ourselves once in a while that it’s ok not to know everything. We’ve made enough mistakes to know that by now. It’s equally as important for us to find out how to get the right answers. Our biggest challenge to date has been acquiring the resources to help us reach the right answers. Then again, maybe were asking too many questions instead of taking immediate action. As you can imagine, it’s not an easy spot for us to be in. And don’t forget, on top of all the ancillary activities we’d like to be building on, we’ve got to continue to work our tails off as 360-degree recruiters so that we reach our short-term goals.

While things may have been getting a little hairy these past few months, what with the thought of another dry summer approaching, all of that was washed away in one fell swoop. We were approached by a company in NYC to help them on a number of executive level searches. I won’t get into the details because that’s not quite the point of this post, but let’s just say we were quite successful with them, and hope to continue to help them build their team for months to come. The point I’m trying to make is that as recruiters, we’re locked in. We’ve got it down to a science. Even when we have doubts, about ourselves, our methods, and each other, Ali and I roll up our sleeves and get the job done. It’s as entrepreneurs that we’ve still got work to do. We’ve been so preoccupied these last few years perfecting our craft, that we’ve been forced to neglect the executional side of growing our company.

We’ve always been passionate about the possibility of running a well-oiled machine, a company that could survive if we disappeared for a few months, something beyond the two of us. To this point, we’ve been hesitant to take an even bigger risk than starting a company – and that’s growing the startup. To risk everything we’ve worked so hard to build the last two years in the hopes of creating something we’ve always dreamed of is certainly worthwhile, but it will take more than guts for us to be successful. I know we can [and will] get to where we want to go. There are countless paths to glory, we just have to pick one and start running.
